A name for a small chain
In a peptide, the building blocks used in proteins are linked together in a short chain. Ipamorelin has five of those building blocks. The original research paper describes it as a substance made in a lab.
A hormone is a chemical message in the body. Ipamorelin acts like ghrelin, a message made in the stomach that signals hunger. It prompts the pituitary, a part of the brain that makes growth hormone, to release that hormone.
A body signal is not a proven result
Releasing a hormone and improving a health problem are different claims. FDA's review of ipamorelin found limited evidence for treating growth hormone shortage or slow gut recovery after surgery. It found no evidence that ipamorelin works for other health problems.
Why the form matters
Plain ipamorelin and ipamorelin acetate are distinct ingredients in FDA's review. Acetate is a salt form, a different chemical form of the same substance. Those names do not make either form an approved medicine, as of October 1, 2026.
