Field note · Weigh the evidence

# What has been tested in people?

The studies in people tested far less than the ads promise.

[Back to the questions ](/)

## Did it release a body message?

In the [human volunteer paper](https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/10496658/), researchers gave ipamorelin into a vein in healthy men. They measured how it moved through the body and the release of growth hormone, a chemical message in the body. That was not a test of better sleep, muscle gain, fat loss, or slower ageing.

## A trial after bowel surgery

The [published bowel-surgery trial](https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/25331030/) compared ipamorelin with a dummy drip, called a placebo. Its analysis included 114 adults. The main measure was how soon a person could tolerate a meal.

The typical times were 25.3 hours with ipamorelin and 32.6 hours with the dummy drip. The difference was not strong enough to rule out chance. The trial's other key measures did not show a clear difference either.

## The missing result

A [larger trial](https://clinicaltrials.gov/study/NCT01280344) enrolled 320 people and finished in 2014. As of October 1, 2026, no results had been posted on ClinicalTrials.gov, the public website that records studies in people. No published paper reporting its results was found either. Without those results, we cannot tell whether the treatment helped.

## Does the study match the offer?

A study can answer the question it tested. Was the study a drip into a vein in a hospital, or a shot under the skin at home? Did it test the health benefit being promised to you?

A question to bring

Which study tested the result I want, in people receiving the treatment being offered?
