Field note · Find care

# What can I check about a pharmacy?

Begin with the name of the operation that would make and send the product.

[Back to the questions ](/)

## Ask for the actual pharmacy name

People who use online care may not know the maker of their medicine, says the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Its [pharmacy guidance](https://www.fda.gov/drugs/human-drug-compounding/compounding-and-fda-questions-and-answers) explains why the maker's identity matters.

A question to bring

Which pharmacy would prepare the product, and which operation would send it?

## Check the state record

The state body that licenses pharmacies is called a board of pharmacy. [FDA's state lookup page](https://www.fda.gov/drugs/besaferx-your-source-online-pharmacy-information/locate-state-licensed-online-pharmacy) leads to the pharmacy licence records. Match the pharmacy's details with the information you were given.

As of September 26, 2026, permission is required by most states before an out-of-state pharmacy can ship medicine to a patient there. Ask the board which permission applies where you live.

## Read badges for what they mean

As of September 26, 2026, [FDA's approval explanation](https://www.fda.gov/consumers/consumer-updates/it-really-fda-approved) says registration does not mean product approval. Accreditation is a check by an outside organisation, and is different from a state licence. For example, a badge called PCAB means an outside organisation checked how the pharmacy makes medicines against quality standards. That check does not test each batch of medicine.

## Then return to the ingredient

As of October 1, 2026, ipamorelin does not meet the legal ingredient rules for an ordinary pharmacy to make medicine from it. FDA's [ipamorelin evaluation](https://www.fda.gov/media/182088/download) supplies the ingredient findings behind that conclusion.

A question to bring

How does this exact product meet the ingredient rules, beyond the pharmacy having a licence?
